Vegan Radio Embroiled in Controversy?Dec 03 2007 • 12:23 PM

Our last podcast featured an interview with Dave Warwak, a Jr High art teacher from the Fox Rive Grove school district in Illinois fired for teaching his children about veganism through art. He was given a "protective order" violating his freedom of speech to remove all documentation of his case from his website. WTF? Sounds like a bad case of censorship to us. He apparently further violated the order by being on our show:

7. On November 22, 2007, nine days after the Hearing Officer issued his Ruling, Warwak blatantly violated the Ruling by appearing on a radio talk show and discussing this case. The program was broadcast on Vegan Radio, WXOJ-LP, Northhampton, MA. (103.3 FM). An archived copy of this interview can be accessed by a link on Warwak’s website. A true and correct audio copy of the November 22, 2007 Warwak interview is recorded on the CD attached hereto as Exhibit C.

WOW! What a bunch of malarky... couldn't they at least have made us exhibit V? Apparently the censors went to the trouble of listening to the show and even transcribed some of it:

10. In addition, during the November 22, 2007 interview, Warwak made the following statements about this case, among others:

• “I was trying to bring veganism into the classroom. And they didn’t like that at all. And they told me to stop. And, so I did. And then I had a run in just at the beginning of this school year where they were hanging up the milk posters year after year. And I had asked that they be taken down because they are just false and misleading. And that started into this issue of what can be on the wall and what can be told to kids. And they refused to take the posters down, so I told the kids the truth. I bought them all Food Revolution books by John Robbins and, that was my last day in class. They fired me after that.”

• “They said that [the book I handed out] was not approved curriculum, and that I was indoctrinating the kids. I was, you know, telling them to keep it secret. And these are the excuses that they used to fire me.”

• “I even gave it to the Board of Education at the meeting that they fired me for, and I said look at this and said talk about the health of the kids and what’s going on in the world. And they refused. And they wanna stick to technicalities and fire me for X, Y, or Z, when that’s not even right for them to do that because I was just being honest. You can’t fire someone for telling the truth, you know.”

• “And then they accused me too of keeping a secret, when I’m the one that’s not keeping their secret. It’s their secret. And so they fired me for keeping it a secret and indoctrinating kids, which is insane.”

Of course this is all about a system of oppression trying to sustain itself. Warwak's methods of teaching the value of compassion towards animals were unconventional, but were truly art in the greatest sense. The controversy that has surfaced in the news and all over the internet is well-documented and will not go away, in spite of any efforts by authorities. We have not become a totalitarian state... yet.

Of course the powers that be are trying to frame this in the usual way, that activists who are trying to achieve some level of compassion for other sentient beings by peaceful means are somehow "terrorists", while a system that brutalizes animals by enslaving them, torturing them, and finally killing them is somehow the "norm" that needs to be sustained. It is rather transparent in this statement:

12. As stated in the District’s initial request for the protective order, due to Warwak’s previous airing of information about this matter on the Internet and to other media outlets, the District is very concerned about the potential exposure of the identities of the student witnesses in this case, who are minors ages 10 through 14 years, to third persons, media outlets and the internet, which would serve to intimidate them and expose them to unwarranted publicity, threats, and dangers from unknown third parties.

Attn: Fox River Grove School District. There are no animal rights boogeymen out there trying to harm the children you are hoping to protect. However, the meat and dairy industry have fully and completely infiltrated your system. They have supplied you with propaganda about the health benefits of their products, which in reality will lead your students to a lifetime of degenerative diseases and/or obesity. They will help to propagate violence in our societies which will start with the animals and bleed into human interactions. There is nothing worse you can teach than that animals don't matter, and nothing better than that they do.

I have not seen anywhere on Dave's website that there are names or addresses of any of the children in his classes. If there was then that would warrant some kind of action. As it is Dave is merely a compassionate man who is perhaps overzealous in his methods but poses no harm to anyone.

To boot, there are websites such as archive.org that store complete copies of websites as they evolve. There is no way to completely censor information from the internet, other than the totalitarian methods that are used by regimes who control all media. Shall we become one of them? I hope not. Lighten up!

The Vegan Radio interview with Warwak will remain on our servers and in the dozens of other places on the internet it has already been archived, as well as on personal computers all around the world where it has been downloaded. We hope that Warwak will be allowed his freedom of speech as well. Visit his site while you still can!

Vegan Radio rocks!

Hey Vegan Radio Cats,

They say delete. I say add! I am calling for the students to boycott the school lunch program and I expose their bogus press release - all on my front page for the world to see http://inslide.com

And because they want to hide this and prevent any communications, I wrote a letter to my students and posted that as well http://inslide.com/lettertostudents.htm

Power to the people!

Peace, love, and understanding for all,

Warwak

ps; Vegan Radio is the opposite of every other radio show
