Nan Sea Love
The Awakening illustrates the higher self awakening while the body either sleeps, meditates or readies for death. The twin faces are looking into each other's eyes with love and thus seeing with new eyes. This painting suggests that as long as we look in judgment, without compassion or understanding toward others or ourselves we see them and ourselves as separate from the Creator of all, God. Many spiritual paths such as "The Course in Miracles" teach that the shadow we condemn in others is repressed, but potential, as part of ourselves. Until we forgive or accept that shadow we unconsciously know is there, we cannot experience our oneness with God.
