Alex Jarrett

Alex Jarrett is a vegetarian and a former programmer of Veganica. His main interests are living off the grid and bicycling, as well as playing the flute and piano.

Alex has achieved a kind of celebrity from his website The Degree Confluence Project. This is a project where people visit locations where latitude and longitude lines meet on the earth and take photographs, which they then submit to the website. Alex has a great love of exploration and has given thousands of people around the world a reason to explore and become part of a greater project. For this he has been interviewed on NPR, in USA Today, and in many various other places. It is hard to hang out with him due to all the news outlets constantly calling and interupting.

Alex's other big project is his business - Pedal People. This business was started by Alex and his freegan partner Ruthy. They are both bicycle enthusiasts who believe car culture is destroying the environment, rightly so. So they bought a couple bike trailers and now pick up trash and recycling around Northampton, MA at a price that is competitive with the big companies. They will also move furniture or just about anything weighing 300lbs or less. They are currently adding an online grocery shopping service, natural foods only of course!

Alex is not a photographer by trade or schooling, but in his travels has taken some interesting photos. He created his profile on Veganica to test his code without experimenting on other artist's data. He was pleasantly surprised when he got his first online order. We hope he gets many more! Alex is also an accomplished musician. His current band Ubertuber is becoming a local contra dancing favorite.

Alex has donated loads of time to Veganica and doesn't get much in return, so please email him and tell him how much his work is appreciated, or stop by High Street on a Monday night for his weekly vegetarian potluck and contra dancing.
